THE GIFT OF MUSIC
You know how sometimes you see someone walking
down the street
with headphones in their ears, listening
to some kind of music as they go along?
Perhaps it has become so much a part of our
times
that you do not notice it anymore.
But we do notice it very much if that person
is happy and singing along
or happy and bouncing their head up and down
to the beat of the music.
Or if
they are sitting somewhere and
tapping their feet or foot
to the
sound of the beat.
We can see that they are happy
or perhaps we can feel their upbeat mood
as they groove to the music.
Try it yourself sometime.
Take a portable sound system, or even a regular
one
and put on some music that you find very upbeat
and uplifting.
Do not take a piece that makes you feel a
little happy.
Keep searching until you find a song that
really makes you feel
like singing or dancing. You may already have a
song
or you might have to search for awhile.
You may have to enlist the help of friends
or the local librarian to help you find just
the right song.
Let it really be a musical piece that really
moves you
and makes you feel great!
No question, it MUST be a song
that makes you feel great, alive and uplifted!
Put on some headphones and
listen to it at a time you know
you will be completely undisturbed.
Now let yourself become completely
absorbed by the sound of the music
and singers if there are any.
Let it carry you away to where ever you want it
to.
Have fun with it.
Smile, laugh or make other sounds
that enhance the way you feel.
You might even sing along or at least hum.
Afterwards, shut off the music, remove the
headphones
and just sit back comfortably
and stay with the essence of that particular
musical piece.
Allow the semblance of the sounds to engulf
you.
Let it last as long as you can.
Savor the feeling with as many senses as
possible.
How does it make you feel?
Does it remind you of a good experience
in the past or is it just uplifting to you now?
Observe how it makes you feel and effor
to
sustain this feeling
even as you have to go on to do other things in
your day.
Let it stay with you, this upbeat sentiment,
so that it is completely a part of you
for the duration of this day.
At the end of your day,
bring this experience to your mind again
and recall if you were able to stay
in the mood of this music
you enjoyed earlier in the day.
If you were, then you can use this song
to help you daily. It can become
your theme song to uplift you.
If you were not able to carry this mood
into other parts of your day,
then I suggest you try this exercise on a daily
basis
until you are able to carry it with you
in your mind throughout your day.
